Winter Triathlon (Aquathlon) National Championships

From December 19 to 22, Lviv hosted the Ukrainian Triathlon (Aquathlon) Championship for the elite and U23, as well as the Ukrainian Cup for Youth, gathering over 130 participants. During the same days, the Final of the Kids League was held, featuring more than 200 young athletes from across the country. Additionally, the Trilewy Aquathlon Cup for amateurs took place. In total, nearly 400 participants competed in Lviv, with the event involving more than 500 people overall.

The championship events featured 400 meters in the pool and a 3-kilometer running segment in an indoor arena the next day. Prior to the competition, members of the Ukrainian national team participated in specialized training camps focusing on swimming and general physical preparation. These camps, held in Ukraine, lasted for over a month.

One of the camp participants was Sergey Kostenko from Zaporizhzhia, who completed the swimming segment at a pace of 1 minute and 6 seconds per 100 meters. Ten seconds behind him were Yurii Tiuitiunnyk (Poltava), Bohdan Stasenko (Lviv), Arsen Adamov (Poltava), and Dmytro Bondar (Lviv).

In the running segment, only Ivan Shevchenko from Donetsk managed to challenge the leader, catching up with competitors and earning the silver medal in the Ukrainian Triathlon (Aquathlon) Championship. Sergey Kostenko emerged as the Ukrainian champion! The leaders ran the course at a pace of 3 minutes and 3 seconds per kilometer. Yehor Fokov from Dnipro secured third place. Bohdan Stasenko claimed an honorable fourth place, while Maksym Nesvat from Cherkasy finished fifth overall. Among the U23 category, Yehor Fokov and Maksym Nesvat joined Ivan Shevchenko on the podium as group leaders.

Women

In the swimming segment, no one could match Dana Soroka from Lviv. A European Cup winner in Chișinău, European Cup medalist in Riga among juniors, and participant in two European Championships and the World Championship, Dana swam 400 meters at a pace of 1 minute and 15 seconds per 100 meters. Sofiya Bondarenko from Poltava and Kristina Belousova from Dnipro trailed just over ten seconds behind her. The other participants took more than five minutes to complete the swim.

During the running segment, Eva Soroka from Lviv took the lead. Running at a pace of 3 minutes and 18 seconds per kilometer, she left all competitors far behind. This year, Eva won the European Cup in Olsztyn, Poland, and competed in the World and European Championships. Eva Soroka claimed the title of Ukrainian Triathlon (Aquathlon) Champion among the elite and youth. Dana Soroka earned silver, and Sofiya Bondarenko took bronze. Thus, the entire podium was dominated by athletes from the younger age groups. Margaryta Menshykova (Krylova) from Donetsk finished fourth, and Daria Berezhna from Cherkasy came fifth. In the U23 category, Berezhna secured third place, following Eva Soroka and Sofiya Bondarenko.

Youth 16-17

The Youth 16-17 category athletes competed in the overall standings among the elite in the Ukrainian Triathlon (Aquathlon) Cup. Eva Soroka emerged as the leader among the girls, while the podium was completed by Anastasiia Snesar from Cherkasy and Mariia Ivashchenko from Poltava.

In the boys’ competition, a tense battle saw Illia Honcharuk from Zhytomyr and Arsen Adamov from Poltava claim the top spots. Arsen Adamov and Dmytro Bondar from Lviv led after the swimming stage, with Illia trailing by 22 seconds. However, Illia closed the gap during the running segment and secured victory with a margin of just 0.2 seconds over Arsen. Hlib Yakubets from Poltava finished third.

Youth 13-15

Over 20 youth girls and 50 boys competed in the Ukrainian Cup on a course of 200 meters swimming and 1 kilometer running. Yurii Kushnir from Lviv claimed victory in a tightly contested race. He finished three seconds ahead of Zakhar Tsivkovskyi from Donetsk, who had represented Ukraine in the mixed relay at the European Youth Championship. Artem Nizhenets from Sumy secured third place.

Among the girls, Kateryna Kyrylovych from Zhytomyr dominated the swimming segment. Six seconds behind her were members of the 2024 national reserve team, Amina Marchenko from Cherkasy and Oleksandra Boronina from Zhytomyr. Kateryna remained untouchable during the running stage as well. Kateryna Kyrylovych claimed the title of Ukrainian Triathlon (Aquathlon) Cup winner among girls! Amina Marchenko and Oleksandra Boronina completed the podium.
